"Hey Theo. I've been experimenting with the pressure plates and I thought you might like to hear!
I ordered the Titanium, Solid Silver, and Heavy Brass. They REALLY DO make a difference!
The first thing that was evident was, for me, all 3 pressure plates played better than the Alive Gold plate that originally came with the mouthpiece. So I'm glad I ordered them. Just like you said in the web site description, the Heavy Brass plate seemed to take away some of the flashier overtones and place emphasis on the core sound of the mouthpiece.
The Solid Silver plate responded VERY NOTICEABLY better than all the others, all over the range of the horn! More color than the Heavy Brass, with, like you said, a very weighted and deepened core. For me, the Solid Silver produced the largest and thickest sound of all, with lots of edge, and again the easiest and most immediate response.
The Titanium plate had a very nice, rich metallic tone that was interesting without being overly flashy, with good projection and some interesting colors to paint with. All three definitely made a noticeable, artistic difference with the sound and playability all over the horn."
